Music Roots Concert

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 – Evening Concert at 6:30 p.m. – Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Performing Students should be at the Theater by 5:45 p.m.

Come enjoy a free evening of entertainment as our Music Roots students perform for us to show off what they've learned though the year.

The Music Roots program in Stone County is sponsored by The Committee of 100, The Mountain View Bluegrass Association, The Mountain View School District and the Ozark Folk Center. Skilled instructors provide youth with classes in traditional folk instruments: guitar, banjo, autoharp and fiddle. Classes are held during the school day to ensure participation. Each student is provided a quality instrument—the Committee of Hundred has donated $5,000 worth of instruments, and additional instruments have been donated from individuals across the country—to provide this opportunity to a greater number of students. Since the program’s inception thirteen years ago, hundreds of students have studied the folk instruments of Arkansas’s pioneer culture. A spokesperson for the Music Roots group says, “This innovative program is creating a generation of young folk musicians. These young people are already performing music that came from Europe with the pioneers. These same students will one day be able to pass this music along to future generations.”
