Traditional Shape-Note Singing/School

Explore singing styles and methods of a simpler time

July 12 - 13, 2013

Come to the Ozark Folk Center State Park to sing and learn about the choral music of our frontier ancestors on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13, 2012 - or just come and listen. You will be led by experienced teachers of unaccompanied four-shape and seven-shape traditions that formed the roots of our present day gospel and congregational singing.

Sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon and from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on both days and take place on the Main Stage in the Large Music Auditorium. Participating singers will be invited to be part of the Friday evening program in the Ozark Folk Center State Park Auditorium.

Instructors Include:

Charlie Sandage

Gaylon Powell

Dan Brittan

Holly Ruth

Admission to the class is free. Please call our front desk to register. Please enter through the main entrance at our Music Auditorium for the classes both days. Parking is available at the main lot and shuttle buses will be running to the auditorium.
